SafSlim© vs. SaffroLean

Safslim vs Saffrolean

Saffrolean is made from the Saffron crocus (left) and Safslim© contains parts of the safflower (right).

You might have heard about SafSlim© (a safflower based product) and Optimized Saffron Extract on The Dr. Oz Show. Though both are diet supplements with similar names, they have little in common. You may not have realized that they are even derived from two different plants and affect weight loss in entirely separate ways.

You can learn about the difference between these two plants with our article on Saffron vs. Safflower.

The active ingredient in SafSlim©, safflower seed oil, comes from the safflower plant. Satiereal Saffron, the active ingredient in SaffroLean, comes from the saffron crocus. Both of these plants have been used in traditional medicine for centuries but only the saffron crocus has a long history of being used to achieve a healthy weight. It is just recently that safflower seed oil has been posited as a potential diet supplement.

Safflower seed oil contains primarily Omega-6 fatty acids. Omega-6 fatty acids are necessary for a healthy diet but are relatively common. There is still much debate in the medical community about the benefit of increasing ones intake of Omega-6 fats. In a study of postmenopausal women with type II diabetes those taking safflower seed oil did experience a decrease of abdominal fat compared to the subjects taking another supplement. While it may decrease abdominal fat, it has not been demonstrated to affect overall weight loss.

Satiereal Saffron contains an organic compound, safranal, that is rich in antioxidants and acts as a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that sends messages to your brain about your mood. When your serotonin levels are higher, you have an improved mood. Higher serotonin levels also increase feelings of satiety, or the sensation of being full, and can decrease appetite.

Saffron’s ability to improve mood and increase satiety is what has led it to be used in Europe for centuries to achieve a healthy weight. For those who struggle with overeating and compulsive snacking or “emotional eating,” it helps you to control your cravings and pursue a healthier lifestyle. In a medical study of 60 mildly overweight women, those taking Satiereal Saffron snacked 50% less than before.

The benefit to SaffroLean is that it helps you to achieve overall weight loss as you take control of your cravings. Along with decreasing your cravings, it will also leave you feeling more energetic and alert. Energized and satiated you will find yourself more motivated to achieve your lifestyle goals. SafSlim© has a much more narrow utility, only being able to minimize some of your abdominal fat.
